Reading for Writers: Fiction

03/02/2017 - 7:00pm

This group is designed for writers or those with some writing experience. Each month, we'll engage in writing exercises to hone our craft. We'll read some of our work out loud. We meet the first Thursday of every month at King's. For the next several months, we will be working with The Making of a Story: A Norton Guide to Creative Writing by Alice LaPlante, books at King's. This month, we'll be working with Chapter 6, "Who's Telling This Story Anyway?" Attendees are advised not to do the exercises in advance (though they are encouraged to read through them and consider which one they might do, and how they might approach it, ahead of the meeting). Bring your copy of the anthology, along with your preferred writing tools.

Facilitator Zak Nelson is a writer and bookseller who lives with his wife in Tacoma’s Lincoln District. He holds a MFA from North Carolina State University, and enjoys literary fiction, personal essays and memoirs, science fiction, food and travel writing, graphic novels, and the occasional poem. He is working on his first novel.
