Chris Vega Book Launch (y ¡Feliz Cumpleaños!)

09/29/2023 - 7:00pm

Double celebration time! Vega is the sophomore poetry release from longtime friend-of-King's Christina Vega. PLUS: it’s Chris's birthday. Let's celebrate both with a big, Mexican, double-Libra-energy party! Says Chris: "I’m nervous and excited to finally release this book, which has been in the making for almost three years. This book is about grief, transformation, loss, liminality, and familia. I want you to read it so we can be sad Mexican crying hearts together." There will be music by DJ Smokey Wonder and poetry readings by Katharine Threat, Sasha LaPointe, Nicole McCarthy, and Sarah A. Chavez. There will also be a community altar where folks can honor family and friends who have passed. We encourage you to bring photos, trinkets, poems, flowers, and candles for the altar.

Christina Vega is a nonbinary parent and founder of Blue Cactus Press. They’re queer & Chicana. They believe revolution starts at home. They believe we have the power to reshape communities with principles of emergent strategy, transformative justice, and collective laboring of love. They make and write books through relationship. Previous work includes their first book, Maps, in 2017; the chapbook How to Overstay Your Welcome in 2019; and co-wrote/co-published the chapbook Decay with Conner Bouchard-Roberts and Winter Texts in 2022.
