I grew up reading whatever I wanted and I don't believe in guilty pleasures. As a result, I have no qualms saying romance makes up about 95% of what I read. I'll read the occasionally non fiction book to make me a better person but romance does that too. It gives us hope, teaches us empathy, and above all makes us smile. I'm not a rom-com girlie but that doesn't mean the books aren't without a few laughs. I focus on books that are heartfelt, highlight marginalized voices, and showcase amazing indie authors you might not have ever known about. Life is too hard and too short to not read about HEAs (happily ever after).

Oh this book was fun! And not just because the drinks were pretty easy to make and the ingredients fairly accessible (many of which you probably have already). Each drink has a little bit of history and a write up about it. The steps are simple and easy to follow and many of the drinks would make great mocktails if your not partial to alcohol. [Danielle]

Technology is often seen as the "solution" to disability, regardless of what disabled people think. This book, however, is from the perspective of disable people and how they interact with tech. It stresses that while many disabled people rely on tech in some way, they take a different approach to it. While short, this book does a fantastic job at unpacking the role technology plays and the many unresolved concerns surrounding it that disable people have. It also forces the reader to confront their ableism which is never a bad things. [Danielle]

Fans for drag rejoice! Whether you are a fan of Drag Race, Dargula, or just the art form in general, there is drink inspired by your favorite artist! The drinks even match their personas. If a queen is avant-garde and bombastic, the drink will be experimental with complex flavors. If they are feminine and sexy, the drink is more warm and sensual. Some are even bases on iconic moments and fashion. [Danielle]

A book for theater nerds and music geeks everywhere! Nat and her friend group are back and they're taking the stage. While the first book focused on Nat being the new girl and just wanting to fit in, the sequel is all about her wanting to shine while dealing with the typical drama and angst that comes with middle school. The fact that she's in a wheelchair is secondary. Some people suck but the story isn't about that. It's refreshing to have a book about a character who's disable that isn't about her disability. Meet the other 5% of what I read. Full disclosure, I did pick this up because I read a romance with a blind character and I realized I had a lot to learn. Yes, Andrew is one perspective but his story does revile a culture many people don't and never have access too. Romance make me want to be a better person. This book taught me how. [Danielle]

This was a book club book a while back and the more I think about it, the more I realize how much I love it. I've read a lot of romances and yet I've never read one about two ace characters happy and in a healthy, loving relationship. People don't we deserve or should want HEA's. This book show's otherwise. I read this book when it first came out five years ago. I still remember clutching my chest in pain from the angst. It's just as good now as it was then and remains one of my favorite romances of all time. I wouldn't call it taboo but I know not everyone is into the idea of a girl getting with her ex's dad. I was into it but that's me and my issues I've learned to accept. [Danielle]

Full disclosure, I bought this book on aesthetics alone. I was more than pleasantly surprised to find not only a really sweet romance that doesn't take forever to get to, but charming characters and a sweet story. It's not for kids because of some content towards the end but it is still wholesome and heartwarming. The perfect slice of life manga to cozy up with. [Danielle]

I rarely get to read books with social demi characters, let alone an emotional (bust still really funny) friends to lovers romance with a bi-awakening. Not only that, it has some of the best blind rep I have ever read in any book. Dianna Roman doesn't write nearly as much as most indie authors but when she does, she knocks it out of the park. This book made me a better person. And for that reason it's one of my top books of the year. [Danielle]
