After I finished Tess of the d'Ubervilles from my high school's summer reading list, I closed the book and said to myself, "I am going to read all the Classics." I have read a lot of them, but I evolved and expanded my repertoire to include: biographies, memoir, recent fiction, poetry, manga, philosphy, history, and several other nonficiton genres. My favorite authors are: Haruki Murakami, Thomas Hardy, Virginia Woolf, John Steinbeck, Graham Greene, Jeannette Winterson, and Anna North. I belong to four book clubs, and I love how I get to encounter books I would never have known about otherwise.

The cats in these stories are all different. Like most cats in real life, they have their own perspective on the humans they adopt. I was deeply moved by each woman's tale and loved how they were all connected. [Blanca]

Clever, arrangement of book spines-some made me laugh out loud. What's more, each poem is accompanied by relevant facts and quotes. It's a great book to pick up on a whim and find inspiration on any given day. [Blanca]

Nothing like reading poetry from an individual who perceives the world in an entirely different way, especially in a very tactile way, considering I do not like to touch much of anything. I found his ASL and protactile translations fascinating, but my favorite pieces were "Trees" and "Goldilocks in Denial". Reading his poetry, I realized: however different we navigate this world, when we translate our experience into language, we can reveal our similarities and connect with each other. [Blanca]

Unlike his Book of Delights, these essays are much lengthier and more elaborate in a rich conversational style. Gay writes about almost everything, from childhood to culture to academia to masculinity, and can get candid about it all, which I loved. [Blanca]

Grant sets a totalitarian system within an Irish boarding school and shows how philosophy can fight back against oppressive ideologies. It's 1984, Clockwork Orange, and Brave New World for kids but with a more optimistic perspective! It's a great introduction to the Socratic method. [Blanca]

I undoubtedly enjoyed her poems. They reminded me how life is about what details we choose to attend to not only as we experience the present but also in what we remember from our past. Cisneros crafts her life into crisp stanzas and unpredictable metaphors. [Blanca]

Enchanting protagonist! I would have loved to sit down and chat with Adela Ramirez, a seventh grader confronting big themes: identity, family, and morality. From searching for her biological father to questioning honesty and integrity, she applies knowledge from archeology and telenovelas to reach her keen perceptions. There was never a dull moment following her story. [Blanca]

$29.00
ISBN: 9780316388061
Availability: Usually Ships in 1-5 Days
Published: Little, Brown and Company - August 9th, 2022

Gregg has that eloquent prowess of turning scientific and philosophical concepts into readable and entertaining ideas. His book is well-researched, and I admired how he used the name of a corvid given to it by the Shoshoni before it became "Clark's nutcracker". How did Nietzche relate to human and animal intelligence? Well, I don't want to spoil it. [Blanca]

From attending an early concert to eventually meeting Prince in person, Hilton Als shares with us his impression of the artist while also placing both encounters within his personal histories of love and loss. It inspired me to watch and listen to all of Prince's artistic output once more. [Blanca]
