I'm in love with this book that uses only pictures and the thousand (ahem, I think you mean ten-hundred) most commonly used words to explain the complicated science behind the universe's most interesting things, from planes with turning wings (helicopters) to the big flat rocks we live on (tectonic plates) to the shared space house (the International Space Station). Randall Munroe, creator of xkcd, does this with humor and a surprising level of brilliance and insight. So fun. [Kenny]

This wonderful book is for all ages. Factual entries and bird-watching tips may make it informational, but the first thing that drew me to “Owls” were the charming illustrations. It is owlishly smart and appealing. [Raissa]

Beautiful, chilling stories live here. Gaiman excels at creeping out his readers. I dare you to read "Click-Clack the Rattlebag" in the dark. [Nicole]

This book kind of blew my mind. Jon Krakauer overturns every stone while staying focused on the people behind the story. I thought I knew, but I didn't know. [Raissa]
