This former Poet Laureate's thesis is simple: to write great poetry, one should steal from great poets. This anthology includes some of Pinsky's favorite poems with pedagogical notes. By no means the only great poems out there, but a cool book nonetheless! (Michael)

This novel is a slow simmer that comes to a furious boil for the last quarter. A unique, and freaky, take on the crime novel. Beukes is one of my favorite authors. She leaves me breathless and wanting more. Plus, such great characters! (sweet pea)

A morbidly grotesque tour through medical history. It's not difficult to ken where zombie lore comes from after peeping some of these horrifying specimens. Beyond that, the illustrations are beautiful, even if the subject is gruesome.

Phew! Dramatic and exciting. Full of interesting historical details. Terribly sad. Often more cinematic than the movie! After finishing it, I immediately started re-reading it and telling everyone how coffee was made at the slave cabins of Louisiana. The language is from the 19th century without being archaic. It's an incredible story and a truly engrossing book.

One of the best books I've read in a while. Written as a series of letters to Richard Gere, this sweet, quirky, and wholly optimistic story is guaranteed to make you appreciate what you've got - no matter how odd it might seem from the outside.
