ethics shape work locally, and globally, to have an impact that truly
empowers people and restores ecosystems. Cost is a sliding scale, $10 - $5,
although students in the permaculture
course pay no extra fee.
February 27 * 2 - 5 pm. Inclusiveness in
Permaculture Talk.
Emet Değirmenci
presents a talk on "Inclusiveness in Permaculture". The
session will have two parts. In the First Session,
Değirmenci
will introduce the multicultural aspects of permaculture. She will
relay her experiences from New Zealand where she lived and developed a
sustainability project, Innermost Gardens, which introduced the
concepts of permaculture to refugees and new migrants. We'll show
a short film about Innermost, followed by a discussion. The Second
Session will consist of dividing into small groups for a
brainstorming
session. They will then go back to the larger group where a
discussion on how to design permaculture projects that consider other
cultures and populations will ensue. Cost is a sliding scale of
$10 - $15.
Emet Değirmenci
was born in
a village in a rural part of
western Turkey. Through her participation in the traditional
community planting and harvesting festivals, she found her love for
stewardship and community and has been sharing her experience and vision
ever since. An accomplished geophysical engineer for 14 years, she
decided in 1997 to invest her studies and efforts around healthy and
sustainable community building and completed her first permaculture
course. She's had 15 years of extensive work in the field of
permaculture-based organic community gardening. Emet now lives on
Vashon Island and is working on many projects from climate justice,
gender studies to urban community gardening. All these projects
involve permaculture principles, community building goals and standards,
and great healthy food and connection through land and food production.
