This monthly event features a Distinguished Writer followed by an Open Mic for all poets, sign-up is at 6:45 pm. Risa Denenberg is an aging hippie poet who moved to the Pacific Northwest from the East Coast in 2008 and is currently living in Sequim. She earns her keep as a nurse practitioner and has always worked in the cracks of medicine, in HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, women's health, end-of-life care, and chronic pain management. Her poetry reflects her compelling interest in finding connections between science, psychology, and spirituality. Denenberg has recently published her first poetry collection, “what we owe each other”, published by The Lives You Touch Publications, which is a tribute to her close friend, Jon Greenberg, who died of AIDS in 1993. Admission is free. The event occurs monthly the second Friday of every month at King's Books. Sponsored by the Puget Sound Poetry Connection and the Tacoma Arts Commission.
