Glenna Cook grew up in Olympia where she married her husband, Kenneth, at age 18. They had three children, nine grandchildren, and eight greatgrandchildren. In 1990, she retired as training manager at US West Communications, after 25 years of service, and immediately enrolled in college. She graduated from University of Puget Sound, Magna cum Laude, at age 58, with a BA degree in English Literature. While at UPS, she won the Hearst Essay Prize for the Humanities,and the Nixeon Civille Handy Prize for Poetry. She has read her poetry in the Puget Sound region, and has published several dozen poems in journals and anthologies. In 2014, she was granted a residency at Hedgebrook, where she wrote some of the poems for this book. Glenna has Parkinson’s Disease, which she keeps at bay with medicine and a regular discipline of tai chi, yoga, and cycling exercises at the YMCA.
